Historically network and information security was one of those things that organisations tended not to take that seriously.  However, in the past several years, security from a network and information perspective, has come to the fore.  High profile corporate collapses in the US and Australia, along with the theft of organisations Intellectual Property have contributed to the growing demand for security services and appliances. 

Enterprises now need to meet their own internal standards or indeed meet standards such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) or a host of others. These standards dictate how corporate bodies act in many ways, but from a technological point of view it comes down to how information traverses the network and who and how employees have access to that information.

For this reason Information Security (InfoSec) and Network Security are extremely important components of an organisation's security policy and infrastructure.
